What the Critics Say

"Jalapeno mashed potatoes at Ocean Prime. They are...flavorful but not spicy-hot, and exquisitely layered. The serving is meant to share but who wants to?"
-The Dish, December 2012

"At Ocean Prime all of the elements unite in perfect harmony - the density of onions, the saltiness of the broth, the architecture of the crouton, and the tensile strength of the cheese. Onion, shallots, leeks, and scallions are caramelized to a deep brown; cooked in beef, chicken and veal stocks; and ladled into a sturdy, genteel white bowl."

-Julia Spaulding, Indianapolis Monthly, 2012

“The restaurant clearly evokes a retro/glamorous vibe…”
The Indianapolis Star, October 2012

"When you want to dine out, you have decisions to make. Seafood or steak? Casual or upscale? Quiet dining room or bustling bar? At Ocean Prime, the northside's newest dining destination, you'll find options for all of these."
-North Magazine, September 2012

"Expert bartenders concoct a dazzling array of mixed libations, ranging from the solidly traditional to the coolly contemporary."
-Sophisticated Living, September 2012

"Shellfish cobb salad might be the best interpretation of the ladies-lunch staple that I have ever tasted..."
-Indianapolis Monthly, August 2012

"Ocean Prime exceeded my expectations... Ocean Prime is the ultimate upscale restaurant serving the best seafood and steaks."
-Indianapolis Recorder, June 14, 2012

"Longing for the elegance and luxury of a classic supper club from long-ago with modern updates of the present? Then Ocean Prime, located at River Crossing, is the place for you. When it comes to food, there is something for everyone. As divine as the appetizers and entrees are, the desserts are a must for those with a sweet tooth."
-Diane Moore
 Moore Writes, 2012

"This patio is leading the way among luxury restaurants in the area. Founder Cameron Mitchell, General Manager Greg Sage, and the entire team didn't miss a single detail. Executive Chef Shawn O'Brien has done a marvelous job perfecting the dishes...It seems that Ocean Prime is 'Indy's Extraordinaire Restaurant.'"
-Theodore Simpson
 Examiner.com, 2012

"A server arrives with our first foray into the fairly tame menu (don’t expect to see free-range chicken livers or locally foraged herbs here). A tower of glistening, almost translucent ahi tuna quivers over layers of crispy fried wontons and avocado. The fish is exquisitely fresh and the wonton crunch gives this standard riff on raw fish a nice textural twist. The accompanying ginger ponzu sauce is almost irrelevant. The same can be said for the sweet corn cream sauce served with our jumbo lump crab cake—frivolous. The crab cake is a joyful, pure delight, almost entirely composed of crab… who needs sauce?"
The Atlantan, March 2012

"Chef Shelley’s talents to mystify the senses are extraordinary; sit back and let Ocean Prime’s hospitality take over.”
– Megan St. James, Labrys magazine

“From the moment you pass through the door, it’s obvious you are somewhere special. The interior design is stunning…and through a sparkling glass wall sits the kitchen, where chefs perform a ballet of preparation.”
Hope Philbrick, Newcomer magazine

“Buckhead’s Ocean Prime offers wild and naturally harvested seafood ideal for the chilly winter nights – particularly when enjoyed fireside on the restaurant’s heated patio.”
Giannina Smith Bedford, Atlanta Now magazine

“A perfect fit for Atlanta’s fascination with art of dining, Ocean Prime seamlessly blends boutique tastes with the heirloom hospitality of days gone by.”
Alyson Kate, Atlanta Insider

“Championing the modern American supper club concept, Ocean Prime is one of Buckhead’s finest restaurants, serving up the most tempting of land and sea plates.”
Simply Buckhead

"Reminiscent of glitzy holiday baubles, Ocean Prime's signature cocktail glows a festive, sparkling red, thanks to a fusion of Belvedere citrus vodka, Domaine Chandon brut and house-made sour studded with marinated berries.  The piece de resistance is a spoonful of dry ice, which instantly chills the liquid, frosts the stem of the glass and casts an intoxicating smoke as you sip."
-Jezebel, December 2011

"Priding itself on bringing guests an extensive wine list, inventive cocktails (some served with dry ice for a bubbling, smoky effect), and the top-notch fare, Ocean Prime’s extensive menu is sure to have something for everyone; from the succulent crab cake with sweet corn cream to the 16oz. Kansas City Strip broiled to perfection, menu list will make any fine diner satisfied to the highest degree."
-J'Adore Magazine, December 2011

"Millennial supper club with dazzling bling in décor and drinks. More glitz in ginger salmon, Kobe burgers and truffle deviled eggs."
-Golden Brand, Florida Trend's Golden Spoon Awards, 2012

"Ocean Prime came to town with its "A" game and has instantly catapulted into primetime in a very competitive Buckhead corridor."
-Atlanta Social Season, Winter 2011

"We loved OP's take on tuna tartar, with crunchy wontons, avocado and a ginger ponzu sauce.  Don't miss Chilean sea bass with Champagne truffle sauce, and save room for seven-layer chocolate cake for dessert."
-The Atlantan, November 2011

"Ocean Prime recently made its Buckhead debut, serving up fine steaks and fresh seafood in made-from-scratch dishes that showcase pure, regional flavors.  Handcrafted cocktails and an indulgent dessert menu round out the restaurant's delectable draw."
-Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles, November 2011

"Atlanta is finally getting its very own Ocean Prime.  For the uninitiated, OP has been nationally praised for years for its supper club vibe, great steaks, fresh seafood and primo drinks.  Now, it's coming to Buckhead.  Doors open in October."
Men's Book Atlanta, October 2011

"With six locations in five states, the upscale chain Ocean Prime deserves at least a sliver of the credit for the mainstreaming of the Prohibition-era cocktail, with its Cucumber Gimlets, Whiskey Clovers and Strawberry Smashes. But its signature show-stopper is still one of its silliest drinks: The Berries & Bubbles. Chunks of dry ice are added to a rich purple mix of citrus vodka, Champagne, marinated berries and house-made sour mix, and the end result is a raucously bubbling brew that's guaranteed to turn heads around the bar. The fruit flavor is intense, the bubbles add texture and the dry ice gives it a strangely intoxicating aroma (and creates ice on the stem). It's pulpy, it's preposterous ... and somehow, it makes perfect sense."

"...And we upped the praise to "excellent" when we sliced into the salt 'n' pepper tuna like it was butter.  Never mind the wild mushrooms and green peppercorn trappings that came alongside it; with an outside seared and seasoned to perfection and an inside so smooth it might as well have been silk, this piece of fish was, hands down, the best tuna we've had in Denver."

5280 Magazine, July 2011

"Ocean Prime:  Ride the Wave.  Luckily, no membership required."

Denver Life Magazine, May/June 2011

"Handcrafted by what Ocean Prime affectionately touts as 'Bar Chefs', we realize they mean business. Now for this drink alone, Ocean Prime is definitely worth a visit. Of course, this was only the beginning."

www.askmissa.com, 2011

"My favorite, however, is Ocean Prime’s white truffle caviar version. The appetizer arrives on an oversize platter with three hard-boiled eggs, which have been halved and stuffed with a generous mound of smooth yolk. The filling is then topped with a slivered round of black truffle and a dollop of briny black caviar."

Shari Caudron - 5280, April 2011

"...It's Ocean Prime, and it's a huge hit. The place is beautiful with comfortable seating, super lighting, wonderful private dining rooms, and an upstairs bar that is awesome. A seafood and steakhouse, and ala carte offerings are on the menu with many options."

Colorado Expressions, April 2011

"This 'modern supper club' from an Ohio restaurateur takes up basically the last available piece of real estate in Larimer Square and, unsurprisingly, does steaks and ... seafood."

eater.com, March 2011: The Eater Denver Heat Map: Where to Eat Right Now

"From their compelling menu, to imaginative cocktails, a superb wine list, and impeccable service, Ocean Prime is the perfect place to celebrate and entertain with friends."

www.askmissa.com

"...I went for the delicious Berries and Bubbles, a cauldron of Belvedere Cytrus Vodka, marinated blackberries, homemade sour and Domaine Chandon Brut, with a dry-ice presentation that kept the cocktail bubbling. Like Ocean Prime itself, this drink is quite a catch."

Nancy Levine, www.westword.com

"Party on the lido deck! Designed to evoke, but not mimic exactly, a high-end cruise ship. Several different rooms: a TV bar downstairs, a couple of dining areas upstairs, private dining rooms. Luxurious finishes, porthole accents, flattering lighting, spacious tables. No steerage."

Tucker Shaw, www.denverpost.com

"The best of the best including a prime location, prime service and prime food!"

Metromix Denver, January 2011

"It’s a gorgeous restaurant, worth a visit for the ambience alone. It has a bar that’s one of the most stunning around: beautiful, elegant and hip."

Elegant Surf and Turf Restaurant a Throwback to Supper Clubs

"Our meal was nothing less than outstanding. Every single morsel of food that we bit into was perfection. Everything is served hot and nothing was over-seasoned or too fussy.

As for the staff, service was impeccable and personable. As we sat on the patio, we watched as curious passersby turned their heads, curiously watching the lively patio scene. Ocean Prime is a throwback to a time of sophisticated supper clubs, where the vibe is hip and the food and cocktails are amazing.   **4 STARS**"
The Oakland Press

It's Ocean Prime time in Oakland Co.

"Crowds are elegant and waits can be long at new steak-and-seafood spot.  Everywhere you look, there's another beautiful design feature, from towering panels of sheer white fabric washed in blue light, to rich woods covering the floors and walls, to a glass-enclosed wine vault stretching to the ceiling of the 30-foot-high foyer.

You have to hand it to Ohio restaurateur Cameron Mitchell, who wanted to create a 'modern American supper club' with retro touches and contemporary attitude. Ocean Prime is exactly what the company said it would be: 'sexy, sophisticated' and a 'place to see and be seen.'"

"The modern American supper club" with a luxurious menu focused on fresh seafood and fine steaks. For style and scene, this is one of metro Detroit's hottest restaurants."
